Today is Maddux's Birthday. It seems forever ago that Spence and I put the kids to bed then called Bert to come watch the big kids for us to go to the hospital. Spence dropped me off at Lake View Hospital's entrance then left to park. But the entrance was locked and I had to walk around the building to the Emergency Room entrance, pausing to breath through contractions on the way. Oh, it was not funny at the time. After 4 hours of labor in the hospital Maddux was born. (he would have been born on Nov 12 if the DR hadn't of fallen back to sleep after the nurse called. Luckily his wife woke him back up and he made it to me an hour later. Thank heavens I had an epidural)
Today I read stories to Mrs Eggett's class. Maddux had helped me make a poster with pictures of him doing his favorite things. The kids loved cantaloupe on a stick and cookies.
It was very special to get to spend this time with Maddux.
Wolf School made Maddux this crown and he picked the Frisbee from the treasure box. When I asked him what the class sang to him he sang, "Happy Birthday.."hum hum"..Cha Cha!!!" This little boy is the sweetest. (although he would not model the crown, Savannah was happy to)
Maddux loves toys. Trains are great, but the track always ends up destroyed and he is unhappy that little sister is not playing right.
Maddux loves coloring. He is getting very good at using lots of colors. But the crayons always end up broken, thrown down the stairs, and all over the floor. Maggie always wants him to share and the crayons are collateral damage in the fight.
Maddux has Spencer's love of collecting and lining things up. Maddux was so proud to show me his heroes all on their own pillow. I had to smile and be happy. My clean room was torn apart in his pursuit of happiness.
Maddux is very busy. His body is always moving. This Summer we did not make it to the park enough. But he did swim plenty. He is fearless in the water.
Today Maddux yelled for me to come down stairs. "Mommy, come see!" Sasha had come inside from the cold and snuggled against his leg on the warm blankets. Maddux felt special Sasha had chosen him. And a favorite is lunch down stairs watching a show. Today was Ben 10 with his watch on.
Every boy needs a best friend and his is Savannah. When I picked him up from school today without Maggie he asked where she was. I said home with Cooper and Savy. His face lit up and he hurried to the car to play with Savy. He waits for her to get home from school every day. She leads him in imaginary play of ponies and pet shop animals. Most times he is Puppy and he is Mommy. It takes effort to know if he is calling for me or Savy when he is Puppy.
Monday as we were scooping cookie dough he said hey! Mickey Mouses. We scooped dough for a Mickey Mouse cookie.
Maddux still excels at puzzles. His preschool classmates all stop and watch as he completes hard puzzles.
This little boy is a bundle of chaos but mostly happy chaos. He whirls from one toy to the next. One drawer to another shelf. He is inquisitive and smart. Maddux is talking more clearly and adds more words with longer sentences every week. He receives speech therapy 30 minutes a week at Wolf School.
Maddux is brave. He wanders around the neighborhood carelessly if I don't track him down in time. He is still tender, loving his 3 silky blankies and needs them when sad or tired. Maddux is still a skinny boy but is growing so tall! He has been napping most afternoons as he is growing. He loves super heroes. His favorite TV shows are Max and Ruby, Avengers, Mightiest Heroes, Curious George, Ultimate Spiderman, PB&J Otter, and all the big kid shows he sits in on.
Spence and I love our baby number three. It is hard to believe he is a big boy.
Happy Birthday Maddux!
