Some questions I have been asked:
How long does he need to wear it?
Until his head is the proper shape, approx 2-4 months depending on his growth rate.
My cousin's kid had a clear one, what is the difference?
Depending on the kid's diagnosis, you get the helmet that best fits the medical need.
Did insurance pay for it?
We have submitted the $3000 bill and hope it is approved!
Did you get to pick the Color?
Yes, Julie picked the color. She could choose between many themes... Hot Air balloons, flowers, fish, solid red, blue.... etc. She chose the color Ice Age, thinking it would be a good choice, not knowing it would look like a bowling ball.
General Info... Maddux will have to wear the helmet 23 hours a day. It will be very hot, make his head sweat constantly in any level of heat, and most likely make him rashly. It can not get wet, and needs to be cleaned daily with only Rubbing Alcohol. As much as we clean it, it will inevitably end up smelling like dirty socks. There is nothing we can do about it.
This is so exciting! Cooper and Savannah were so sad that they did not get to see him in it. Maddux and I went to the store to pick up some helmet supplies (special shampoo and lotions). EVERY SINGLE SHOPPER stared at him. They would stare as we passed by and they would turn and stare after we passed. An elderly couple stopped me to ask questions about it. Another lady was caught starring, so she politely cooed at Maddux and pretended like he was the most handsome baby she has seem. Totally funny, awkward and unnerving. This is our new life. I guess we are just so glamorous!
Tonight Cooper prayed that Maddux's head would shrink...what a loving brother.

He is still a very handsome baby ... I feel so bad that it is so heavy and his little neck can't keep it up. That will all be taken care of, though!!! Good luck with all the stares, people are funny!
He looks so cute! And I didn't think it looked like a bowling ball until you said that :)
You are too cute with everything-- the pictures, explanations, Q&A's, you are just great! Yes, you will get alot of worried and concerned stares from people all hoping your Maddux is alright and can be healed for whatever ails him. :) Sending lots and lots of hugs for you until next Tuesday!! See you then!
He looks so precious. You need to think of some smart comments to throw back at people! LOL
I hope he does good in PT and gets stronger and stronger. I also hope time flys for him.
Poor baby! Sleeping in that thing could not be fun.
Seriously, I think I need to drop God a note that you could really use an uneventful week.
It totally looks like a bowling ball but Maddux is seriously still cute in it. And I love Coopers comment about his head shrinking!
Love the Q&A....thanks for the info. And if it makes you feel any better....I can't seem to get my boys to take off their bike helmets. They don't wear them quite 23 hours a day....but still. :o)
He still is a handsome baby and at least it's just for a few months. Though its a bummer that those few months coincide with the hottest months of the year. I'm sorry that people stared. How rude they can be.
I think he looks cute! I can't imagen how not fun the adjstment will be for him...not fun. I am excited that he only has to wear it for 2-4 months...hopefully he will adjust quick;y and the time will fly!
Good job mom! You are so patient. I'm very impressed. Maddux is adorable, so I don't worry about that lady at the store! What a little man! :)
Oh Julie, bowling ball.....you crack me up! He's still a total hunk and there are always weirdos out there so don't even worry about it. He'll be outta that thing in no time and sporting a nice little round heed when it's done.
