The Family

Our kids listen to the 2009 Primary music as they fall asleep. The last few days I have been listening to this song (the one playing right now) titled The Family is Ordained of God. The words pierce my heart and make me so emotional. (I am sure I am emotional because Spence is out of town and I just weaned Maddux and my chest is still feeling the affects of that.) I feel such great sorrow over the families that have fallen apart or that are currently suffering. This song puts all my thoughts in to words. I cherish our little family. This song is a great example of The Family: A Proclamation to the World in simple terms which kids can understand.

The third verse sings:

A Mother's purpose is to care, prepare, to nurture and to strengthen all her children. She teaches children to obey, to pray, to love and serve in the family. God gave us families, to help us become what he wants us to be. This is how he shares his love, for the family is of God.

I love this song because it defines a Mother and Father's role, and teaches children that this is what they are striving to become. I love it. It fills my heart with peace and joy that my children can be taught correct principles. I fear that the family, and especially the role of the Mother is being lost. I often question whether I should be driving a nicer car or buying a bigger home. Maybe I should go to work so I can have these things. But things are nothing compared with the family. I am so grateful to be a Mother to my 3 lovely kids. I want to be home for them, to support them, to teach, nurture and love them. I am so grateful for this song to remind me of this.

I am going to have to pay more attention to this song ... thanks for sharing all of that. I am glad others pay attention and help me to learn things along the way! :)

And good job on finishing the book - see you there!

I know exactly how you feel. It makes me sad that the role of the mother isn't cherished, respected, and, made the priority it should be.

What I wouldn't give to stay home every day with my baby. If it weren't for our need of food and toilet paper I'd quit in a second.
Cherish the time you have with your little ones. You are REALLY lucky.

My favorite Primary song. Our kids in Primary know this song SO well, and they sang their little hearts out in sacrament. I can't help getting choked up when I hear them sing it. I think it's such an inspired song for our day.
