My baby girl is 4 and I once again was a lame parent. I knew her B-day was coming, but did not anticipated tending other kids all day, and not having the chance to hit the stores last minute this morning while Savy was at school. I kept Savy home from school to play with her friend all day, and I think that was the best present I could have given her. Even though I was not prepared for a party, the day still turned out well.
I had an expired box of cake mix and we made cupcakes. Savannah only likes to lick the frosting and sprinkles off, so the quality of the cake did not matter.
I really do not like throwing kid parties, so we invited my Sister and her kids to play at Kangaroo Zoo with us and then have pizza at our house. The best part, I did not have to decorate or pick a theme.
We didn't buy her a present until the middle of her party when Spence was able to slip away and hit K-mart.
I put absolutely no effort in to a party, but she still had a wonderful day. This morning I told her happy birthday. She said, "Mommy, today is not my birthday, I already had it!" Grandma Winegar threw such a great Sunday birthday dinner that Savy felt she already had her party!
I sure hope I get my act together and start making special days special! Boy, am I sure glad today is over.

It sounds wonderfully special, and you have the "parent of a baby" card you get to play, just this once ;)
I think you did great!
Don't beat yourself up, Savy was happy and she had no expectations, so all is well!!! Life is simple and good. Just wait until she is 16, then you better be on your toes. Heehee!
