Hiking Day 2

We made the ambitious goal to hike the 3 mile round trip to Delicate Arch.
The hike covered sandy flat trails, steep ups and downs, narrow passages along a cliff, and a very large expanse of slick rock. Spence packed Maggie up the hill and I carried Maddux when he was tired.
We viewed the Arch from a safe distance.

When we finally made it we took a few pictures then found some chipmunks. Who cares about an Arch when there are dill sunflower seeds to feed chipmunks!

The trail was marked by these stacked rock trail markers. Savannah and Maddux stacked one of their own.

The walk down was funner for Savannah listening to Tangled on my ipod.  Both Maddux and Maggie took naps. I love that we look like a dorky and dirty little family.
This hike pushed Cooper and Savannah. They complained a bit and were discouraged at times. We talked about perseverance and the feeling of accomplishment when we complete something hard. Both were very proud of themselves. We came home with a pack of 10 small magnets which show the different Arches. The kids use them to put their homework on the fridge. They fight over the magnets of their favorite hike. They have spoken of it several times. It feels good to have made this fun memory as a family.
