You're Just too Good to be True...

Today is 9 years. To commemorate the big wedding day, I've got 9 memories of that crazy day. 9 happy memories, and 9 surprises.

9 Happy Wedding Day Memories:

  1. Spence picked me up from my early morning hair appt to drive together to the Temple. It was surreal, knowing this was it, just the two of us, on our way to Eternity.
  2. My Hair, I loved my hair. It was amazing, although we were finding bobby pins in it for days.
  3. The white Bentley that surprised us (actually my Dad did) on the Temple grounds for a tour of La Jolla before taking us to our Luncheon.
  4. My Grandpa, and Spence's Grandma were there. They sacrificed to be with us. They have both passed on, and we miss them.
  5. I woke Spence up at 5 am (he was sleeping on the floor in my parents living room) as I was walking out the door to get my hair done. We had pre-wedding butterflies in our bellies as I kissed him goodbye. That seems so long ago.
  6. My dress. I loved my dress. I loved the skirt. It was so full.
  7. My wedding cake. It was beautiful with flowers and vines on it. And tasty.
  8. We were surrounded by family, friends and surprise visitors. A few sacrificed to be there, and we appreciated it.
  9. The last is a fun memory from the night before the wedding. It was super late, Spence and I had packed up the car with all my belongings to move everything to Utah, and packed for the week in Hawaii we were going to immediately after the reception. My sister Stacy came and told me, "Julie, we need to shave your arms. You don't want hairy arms in your pictures tomorrow!" So Stacy, Spence and I sat in the bathroom and shaved my arms. How random. Thank you Stacy!

Now the 9 surprises:

  1. My hair stylist forgot to be at the 6 am appointment. That threw me in a tizzy, getting a hold of her, and getting to the temple on time!
  2. In the brides room I had the first unpleasant run-in with my future mother-in-law. Now don't get me wrong, I love my mother-in-law, but isn't it funny how things happen with different personalities?
  3. My 90 some year old Grandpa got terribly sun burned on the temple grounds and didn't make it to the reception because he was feeling poorly. How sad!
  4. On our romantic tour of the ocean side in our classic chauffeured Bentley, we stopped to get gas. That is weird, why was the car not full already? And it could only go 55 miles an hour. So we cruised to the luncheon quite slowly.
  5. The wedding dance songs were a bit long, in the future I would recommend shorter picks.
  6. The disposable cameras on the reception dinner tables did not take great pictures. What a waste.
  7. We had a very spirited bunch of family decorate our car. Or should I say destroy it? It was packed to the brim with my belongings, ready to take us from San Diego to the LA Embassy Suites to be left in the parking garage for 7 days while we were in Hawaii, then on to Utah. It was so covered in food that we could not even open the doors. Unfortunately we had to stop and get a car wash at 11 pm, delaying our wedding night, and our 4 am wake up time to catch a jet plane. Who planned our flight so early!
  8. The food we had taken from the reception was left in the hotel fridge. It was so sad to leave all that good food!
  9. I do not have a nine. Good news, the day wasn't all that bad!

Happy nine years Spence. It is crazy to see all we have built together. It is unimaginable to think of all we still can build together. Guess we better get crackin, the work never stops!

Congratulations, your reception was so beautiful, I'm so glad I was there to share in the celebration. I do remember your car and I was amazed at how crazy it was covered.

And HILARIOUS about the shaving of the arms....completely random.

Are you going to be in town next Monday??? If so, can't wait to see you soon!

I love that you shared these memories with us. I didn't remember all of those memories and enjoyed reliving your day. (Oh, the arm shaving- I was so weird about that back then!) Congrats you two!
